Who we are:

We are parents/primary caregivers who use our lived experience of raising a child(ren) with social, emotional, behavioral, or mental health challenges to help other parents/primary caregivers facing similar challenges. 
 

Our team members are comfortable using technology and working both remotely and in person. We receive extensive training in order to be able to work confidently one on one with parents and share our knowledge in writing and verbally. We're comfortable being on camera interacting during meetings, webinars and trainings. We are comfortable talking about the challenges we experienced managing our children's multi-system needs such as school issues, the juvenile justice system, child welfare, finding therapists, residential treatment facilities, psychiatric hospitals, etc. And most importantly we're lifelong learners always ready to try something new.
 

Our team members come from all over the state and interact on a regular basis to support, share, educate and encourage one another. We strongly believe in work/life balance, fair pay and the importance of the services we offer.

Family Support Partner to work with CYS families in Washington County

As a Family Support Partner (FSP) you'll work virtually in a hybrid environment with Washington County families involved with CYS. This position requires in person work with Washington County families accompanying them to court, various meetings and home visits. This critical peer support position works one on one using your lived experience to provide a caring and listening ear. You'll be well trained on how to provide parent peer support as well as learning about mental health challenges, substance abuse disorder, and all of the systems families interact with.

This position can ONLY be filled by a parent/primary caregiver who has the lived experience of raising a child with an identified mental health diagnosis (which includes autism, co-occurring substance use disorder, ID, etc.).

The ideal candidate will also have experience navigating systems such as education, special education, juvenile justice, mental health services like High Fidelity Wrap Around Services, therapy. inpatient admissions, Residential Treatment Facilities, etc.  Experience with CYS system is a plus.

Job description: Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct support to parents/primary caregivers

  • Assist families in finding services, community resources, and natural supports

  • Provide emotional support to parents/primary caregivers raising children with mental health challenges who may feel isolated, helpless or intimidated

  • Prepare parents/primary caregivers to advocate for themselves and the needs of their child

  • Assist parents/primary caregivers in following through on needed activities and tasks

  • Assist parents/primary caregivers in learning about ways to support the resilience and healthy social/emotional development of their child.

  • Connect parents/primary caregivers with other parents/primary caregivers with similar challenges and other community resources.

  • Link parents/primary caregivers to other parents/primary caregivers, e.g. social activities, education events, support groups, etc

  • Assist parents/primary caregivers in identifying support groups when needed

  • Coordinate and help facilitate support groups as needed

  • Recruit and link interested and experienced parents/primary caregivers to system-level opportunities (i.e. advisory boards and committees, etc)

  • Connect to the community

  • Actively participate in advertising the work of the Parent Alliance in the local community and through social media marketing efforts

  • Recruit those who would benefit from Parent Alliance membership

  • Mentor parents/primary caregivers in community leadership efforts

  • Represent the Parent Alliance at meetings, conferences and event as requested

  • Actively participate on at least one board, committee or council

  • Collect and record according to agency policies

  • Document all services according to agency policies

  • Represent the family perspective in appropriate meetings

  • Help other professionals to understand the family perspective

  • Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge gained by parenting a child with a mental health challenge and system involvement (such as education, juvenile justice, medical, child welfare, etc.)

  • Excellent computer skills and the ability to work in a hybrid environment

  • Ability to document program outcomes in writing or in program systems and other required paperwork

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Excellent communication, listening, and interpersonal skills including public presentations

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Familiarity with resources and services available across the state and mental health services for children

  • Creative, optimistic, and open to new ideas, strategies and concepts

  • Negotiation and conflict resolution abilities

  • Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds in a culturally competent manner.

  • Completion of all applicable training resulting in certification and credentialing (training will be provided)

Travel and Other Requirements:

  • Must be able to travel locally daily.

  • Must be able to travel to Pittsburgh and statewide occasionally, as needed, with advance notice. Sometimes that travel may be overnight. Opportunity for conference attendance annually.

  •  PA Act 33/34 clearances, state police background check and fingerprint-based background check. 

Hours: 37.5 per week

Compensation: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour depending on experience and knowledge.
Benefits include: Health, dental, and vision insurance participation, PTO, communications reimbursement, participation in company 401K, annual wellness stipend, and 11 paid holidays.

This position requires working in a hybrid environment. With this in mind our ideal candidate will have a dedicated, private area where you can conduct business which involves having confidential conversations which cannot be overheard by others in your household. This area would include a desk with internet access, space for storage of paperwork, and a location where you can be on camera for meetings. Reliable internet access is critical to this position.
